Estate-grown, Yarra Valley
Sauvignon Blanc 100%
The 2013-14 growing season started out unusually cool and rather damp. After Christmas however, these conditions reversed and we experienced hot dry weather for the remainder of the harvest period. One could say it was a season of two halves.
Made from two clones, picked and fermented separately with indigenous yeast in older barrels and left on lees for six months. Bottled early August 2014. Winemaking is kept simple to allow the natural fruit flavours free rein.
Alcohol: 12.5% pH: 3.10 T/A: 6.7 g/l
Light straw with green tinges, still looking very youthful.
The aroma is intense and powerful. Lifted passionfruit, smoke and lantana mingle together to create a striking bouquet, reminiscent of the 2012 Fume Blanc.
The palate somewhat belies the nose, being richer than one might expect. It's the best feature of our Fume Blancs--they constantly surprise at every turn.
Smooth, rounded and long on the finish with exquisite fruit penetration.
Ideal for drinking now but as we have seen with previous releases, cellaring for several years adds to the intrigue of the wine.
