2017 Peter’s Block Pinot Noir
The Yarra Valley is renowned for producing red wines of restraint and finesse. The temperate climate allows full flavour and colour development without excessive ripeness, resulting in wines that are balanced and subtle.
Region: Yarra Valley 100%
Composition: Pinot Noir 100% (77% 114 clone, 23% MV6 clone)
Harvest date: 114: 6th March, MV6: 10th March
Benevolent weather patterns throughout the growing season which was cooler than normal to begin but warmed up as we moved into January and February.
This created excellent conditions to fully ripen our Pinot Noir. Harvest was ten days later than usual.
Hand-picked from our best rows of both clones. The 114 parcel was fermented in a small open vat for ten days then pressed straight to French oak barriques The MV6 was fermented in a larger vat that created warmer temperatures and a different level of extraction After maturation, a careful assemblage of barrels took place. Bottled in February 2018.
Alcohol: 13.5% pH: 3.62 T/A: 5.8 g/l
Bright ruby appearance
Lifted aromatics (from the 114 parcel) of berries and incense.
The palate is, as the best Pinots should be, silky and smooth. There is depth and intensity through the finish if one cares to look but the luxuriant silkiness is hard to get past.
Excellent drinking now but should be cellared to allow it to show its full quality.
Duck, charcuterie (especially terrines) and roasted vegetable dishes.
