It was a tough decision---we don't have a lot of fruit so if we made a rosé, we would have to sacrifice our Bordeaux blend….well, the sacrifice was worth it….gold medal at the 2017 Yarra Valley wine show and the perfect wine for the summer to come…..
Region: Yarra Valley
Composition: Cabernet Franc 52%, Merlot 48%
Vintage conditions: Benevolent weather patterns throughout the growing season which was cooler than normal to begin but warmed up as we moved into January and February.
Winemaking: Made from two varieties, hand-picked and pressed together as whole bunches. Fermentation began in old barrels and was completed in tank. The wine was left on fine lees for a few months before bottling in August 2017.
Analysis: Alcohol: 13.0% pH: 3.25 T/A: 6.7 g/l
Very pale, with the merest suggestion of colour.
The aroma is lifted and reminiscent of summer berries with the leafiness of the Bordeaux varieties apparent.
Spicy, vibrant and finishing with a crunch of dryness, this is the sort of refreshing wine that we somehow missed out on in Australia. Not any longer…...
Ideal for drinking now and in the short term.
