New Release Cabernet Franc
Release of the 2022 Limited Release Cabernet Franc
We are only able to produce a varietal Cabernet Franc in the years when the fruit is both outstanding and of sufficient quantity.
Although Cabernet Franc is well suited to cooler climates there is very little planted in the Yarra Valley and it often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon to make it more approachable.
As a single varietal Cabernet Franc is a lighter wine with beautiful lifted fruit that has flavours of cherries, blood plums and cassis, with hints of star anise, violets and olive. The palate is light and silky smooth, making this an ideal wine to accompany a wide range of food. from duck and lamb to much lighter dishes.
“The Yarra Valley produces great Cabernet that is often overlooked for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This Squitchy Land Cabernet Franc once again demonstrates that Bordeaux varieties sing proudly in the district’s soils. Seeing French oak for 16 months (30% new), an attractive perfume of blueberries, boysenberries and purple flowers launches at you.
Smooth with bevelled edges, this is such a delicious and approachable drink. It possesses a shy persona but develops the confidence to come forward with time. There is an impressive flow highlighted by blackcurrant and plummy fruit with well-handled oak playing a supporting role. Add some tomato leaf, dried thyme and black olives and you have yourself a more than pleasurable cool climate red wine on your hands. Beautiful!” 92/100
“A vibrant, crimson red. Lifted and attractive with aromas of sour cherries, damson plums, blood orange and a hint of fresh tomato leaf. The palate is medium bodied, with good freshness and silky, persistent tannins that are in harmony with the fruit. An elegant, balanced and well-out-together wine.” 93/100
